Introduction

The Be My Parent newspaper is produced every month and contains Children’s Profiles. In the year 2005–06, the Be My Parent newspaper helped 236 children find new families, either through adoption or permanent fostering. Since May 2007, the Be My Parent service has also included a family-finding website.

Children’s Profiles

Every month, the Be My Parent newspaper features over 200 profiles of single children and groups of siblings of all ages and backgrounds who need adoptive or permanent foster families. Where possible, each profile is accompanied by a clear, full-colour photograph of the child or children.

In addition to a standard sized profile, agencies can also opt for an enhanced profile (for single children), which is double the space, as well as half and full-page profiles, which are professionally designed and usually allow for extra word count and photos. Children can be featured on the front cover of the Be My Parent newspaper for an extra fee of £50.

The Children's Profiles pages are aimed at child placement agencies and all families who are interested in adoption or permanent fostering, from people making their initial enquiry into the process, to those waiting to be approved, or already approved.

News & Features

The News & Features accompanies the Be My Parent newspaper every other month, and articles are also posted on the website.

The News & Features is aimed at prospective adopters and permanent foster carers. It contains articles that include news and information and real-life stories from families, children and professionals, all about adoption and fostering. Each issue usually focuses on a specific topic, such as support, how a child is matched, adoption and fostering processes or attachment issues. Explore our adoption and fostering articles.

Please contact us with your story or suggestions for future topics.

Circulation

Approximately 3,800 copies of the Be My Parent newspaper, containing the Children’s Profiles, are circulated to prospective families and referring agencies every month. Agencies who are BAAF members can receive up to six free monthly copies to pass on to families who are in the process of being approved to adopt or foster, or are waiting to be matched with a child or sibling group.

An additional 4,000 copies of the News & Features are made available to the general public through adoption and fostering agencies, and a range of community organisations, such as public libraries, GP surgeries, churches and community centres.
